COR VIVALDI: Little Singers from Catalonia
Created in 1989 by the pianist and conductor Oscar Boada, the Vivaldi Choir (Cor Vivaldi) has become a point of reference throughout Spain. The choir has won important prizes in many international competitions: Cantonigr•s (second prize in 1995 and first prize in 1997), Tolosa (second prize in 1996), Arezzo (first prize and Grand Prix 'Citt… d'Arezzo' in 1998), Varna -Bulgaria- (finalist in European Grand Prix in 1999), Montreux (Mention TrŠs Bien in 2000) and Mendoza -Argentina- (first prize, Spectators' prize, Folklore's third prize and Grand Prix "Provincia de Mendoza" in 2000).
A pionner in the field of children's opera in our country, the Vivaldi Choir has performed many such works, among wich are: J. Elkus's Tom Sawyer, G.C. Menotti's Chip And His Dog, R. Lamotte of Grignon's La Flor and B. Britten's The Golden Vanity, of which the choir twelve performances during 1999-2000 seasons.
The choir's increasing success has enabled it to perform in the most important concert halls of various countries: the Palau de la M£sica and L'Auditori in Barcelona, Victoria Hall in Ginebra, Konzerthaus in Viena and the Stravinsky Audit¢rium in Montreux, as well as to appear at the most distinguished international festivals: Peralada, Ll¡via, Porta Ferrada, Torroella de Montgr¡, la Fabbrica del Canto in Legnano (Italy), Ambronay (France), Europ„isches Jungendchor in Basle (Switzerland) and others.
Cor Vivaldi: Little singers of Catalonia is an example of our country's creativity, while at the same time strengthening the idea that making good music in schools is possible.
